CLOSING

Prayers for Life's Passages

Beyond the seasonal cycle, life itself has turning points that call for prayer and ritual. Here are prayers for the transitions we all face.

A Prayer for Birth or New Life

Hail to the new arrival! A new thread has been woven into the web of the world, and we welcome it with open arms and full hearts.

Frigg, Mother of the Gods, bless this child. Let them be healthy, strong, and curious. Let them grow into someone who makes the world better for their presence.

Thor, Hallower, bless them with your hammer. Protect them from harm and let them know they are safe.

To the new one: the world is vast, the gods are watching, and you are wanted.

Hail and welcome!

A Prayer for Coming of Age

You stand at the threshold now— no longer a child, not yet fully formed, but old enough to choose your path and strong enough to walk it.

Odin, grant them wisdom to choose well. Thor, grant them strength to carry their burdens. Freyja, grant them the courage to love. Tyr, grant them the honor to stand by their word.

The world is yours now— not as a gift, but as a responsibility. Take it seriously. Take it joyfully. Take it as your own.

Hail to the one who crosses the threshold!

A Prayer for Marriage or Partnership

Before the gods and before each other, two people choose to bind their lives together.

Frigg, bless this bond. Let it be strong enough to weather storms and flexible enough to grow.

Thor, hallow this union with your hammer. Protect this partnership from the forces that would break it.

Freyr and Freyja, let love flourish here— the passionate love of the early days and the deeper love that endures when passion settles into something steadier.

To the couple: you are choosing each other today. Choose each other again tomorrow. And the day after that. Every day is a renewal of this oath.

Hail to the bond! Hail to the love!

A Prayer for Death and Funeral

[Name] has crossed the threshold from which none return to Miðgarðr. The road has ended. The gate has closed.

Hel, receive [them] into your hall with the honor they have earned. Let the journey be gentle. Let the rest be deep.

Odin, if they are bound for Valhöll— welcome them to the feast. Freyja, if they are chosen for Fólkvangr— let Sessrúmnir's doors stand open.

To those who remain: Grieve fully. Grieve honestly. There is no strength in holding it in. But know that the dead are not gone— they are elsewhere. And elsewhere is still somewhere.

We speak [their] name so it is not forgotten: [Name].

Hail the dead! Hail the living! Hail the thread that connects them!

A Prayer Before a Major Decision

I stand at the crossroads, and I ask for guidance.

Odin, show me the long view. Frigg, show me what the threads foretell. Tyr, show me where honor lies. Thor, give me the courage to choose and act.

I will not stand here forever. But before I move, I listen. Speak, if you will. And if the silence is your answer, then let me trust my own judgment and step forward without regret.

Hail to the gods who counsel the seekers.

A Prayer for a New Home

I claim this space as mine. Not through force—through intent. I will live here. I will build here. This ground will know my footsteps, and these walls will hear my voice.

Thor, hallow this home with Mjölnir. Drive out what does not belong and bless what does.

Frigg, let peace reign within these walls. Let this be a place of rest, of warmth, of welcome.

Freyr, let abundance flow through this door— enough food, enough laughter, enough love to fill every room.

I dedicate this home to good living. Hail to the gods of hearth and home!
